Minutes from Kansas City and surrounding communities, Fairway is a quaint, suburban town with just 4,100 residents. In the 1820s, the area was reserved by the Shawnee tribe, with the Shawnee Methodist Mission built on the grounds in 1839. The neighborhood was eventually incorporated in 1949 and called “Fairway” because of the proximity to local golf courses and country clubs. A “City of Trees” overflowing with gorgeous green spaces and parks, Fairway is a historic town just ten minutes outside of Kansas City brimming with charming characteristics that put Fairway on the map as one of the top suburbs in Kansas.

Built in 1839, the Shawnee Methodist Mission is now home to the Shawnee Indian Mission State Historic Site, a National Historic Landmark, and the neighborhood’s local museum. The Indian Mission is preserved and features ongoing Indigenous experiences and educational materials for all ages. The Shawnee Indian Mission is dedicated to educating the surrounding community, and the nation, on Kansas City’s intricate history. This 12-acre historic landmark ensures the voices and stories of Native children and their families are accessible today and in the future.
