Located in Johnson County, Kansas, Mission Hills is part of the Country Club District, a master-planned community developed between 1906 and 1950 by Jesse Clyde “J.C.” Nichols. Home to about 4,000 residents, this small community is known for its distinctive landmarks, historic architecture, and pristine rolling hills, most of which are used by the surrounding award-winning country clubs. Mission Hills is a suburb of the famous Country Club Plaza, the premier shopping district and dining destination in Kansas City. 
 
Once a vacation spot for Ernest Hemingway (he wrote A Farewell to Arms in the Mission Hills neighborhood in 1928), this community is an idyllic retreat from the bustling city center of Kansas City. Mission Hills Country Club is a family-owned private community in the heart of Kansas City. Its sprawling green acres includes a championship golf course with a 6,454-yard Par 70 layout, one of the area’s most prized and time-tested designs by architect Tim Bendelow. The club features an award-winning pro shop and diverse cultural events for adults, and a golfing program for children to learn the game on an award-winning course. The clubhouse offers impeccable culinary meals made fresh daily in an intimate dining space and includes a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a state-of-the-art fitness/wellness center. 
 
Founded in 1896, the Kansas City Country Club is one of the oldest to the west of the Mississippi and was designed by renowned architect A.W. Tillinghast. The club features a few fine dining restaurants, a pro shop, and members-only special events. Visit the Sunken Garden for an incredible outdoor experience. The garden features a functional reflecting pool and perfectly maintained pathways to breathe in the fresh air while out for a casual stroll. 
 
Indian Hills Country Club is another top destination of Mission Hills, and not just for the pristine golf course. While the course itself hosted more than 50 USGA and State Amateur qualifying events, it’s also the top destination for social events in the neighborhood.
